Luxury glass igloos near the North Pole offer the best view of the Aurora Borealis in the Arctic
There are only a few very cold places in the world where one can even catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis, much less a place where you can look up at it from bed.
The glass igloos of Hotel Kakslauttanen offers this rare experience and more.
Nestled in a national park in northern Finland, the igloos offer one of the Arctic Circle’s best views of the Northern Lights, as well as millions of twinkling stars, without any urban light pollution.
The thermal domes keep guests warm and cozy even in below freezing temperatures. And the heated glass keeps frost away, to ensure a crystal clear, panoramic view no matter what the weather.
Along with one of the best views in the world, the larger igloos also come with your own personal sauna, to keep things steamy even on the coldest nights.
During the day, the resort offers arctic safaris, allowing guests to explore the wilderness on snowmobiles, huskies, or even reindeer.
The main hotel is also home to the world’s largest smoke sauna, a restaurant, ice bar and snow chapel that is built fresh every winter.
It won’t be a cheap experience, at $600 to $700 a night, but it may be one of the most unique you ever have.
For the more daring, the hotel also offers a dozen traditional ice igloos with an internal temperature of only 21 degrees Fahrenheit.
